Dissecting Flowers
Yesterday we went the the
State Arboretum to
take a class on flowers. The leaders showed the kids a great
visual of a flower and its parts and of a seed and it's parts.
Then the older kids got to dissect flowers and beans and look at
them under a microscope. Afterwards, we toured the arboretum
looking at all the flowering plants and identifying the individual
parts.

See the pollen?

This building
is believed to have been the slave quarters to a neighboring
plantation. Pretty, isn't it? Hard to believe.
I've never seen slave quarters that were so nice. Of course,
it's been added onto to over the years to serve as a dormitory and
as offices so things have changed.
