We recently went to the county fair
and watched the Demolition Derby. It's definitely a good
visual of Newton's 1st and 3rd Laws of Motion.
Newton's 1st law of
Motion: A body in motion will stay in motion unless acted on by an
external force. (inertia)
After each collision, the drivers'
bodies continue to move in the direction the car was going before
the crash. The seatbelts serve as the external force that
stops that forward motion.
Newton's 3rd Law of
Motion: For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
When two cars hit, the cars move in
opposite directions away from each other.
