Math Dice Games

Ship, Captain and Crew
Playing Pieces:
Five spotted dice, each numbered 1 to 6.
Object:
To have the highest number of Cargo Points after five
voyages.
To Start:
Each player rolls
one die. High roll goes first and play moves to the left.
On Each Turn:
Players have
up to three rolls of the dice. The player rolls all five dice
trying to produce a 6, a 5 and a 4 in that order. If on the first
roll the player gets a 6, the player sets that die aside and has his
ship. The player then rolls the remaining four dice trying to get
a 5 for a Captain and a 4 for the Crew. If the player gets the 5
but not the 4, the player sets aside the 5 and rolls the remaining three
dice. If that roll produces a 4, the player scores the remaining
two dice as Cargo. A player who gets the Ship, the Captain and
Crew (6-5-4) on the first roll has the choice of scoring the remaining
two dice as Cargo, or can roll either or both dice a second or third
time to get the highest number of Cargo points. Similarly, a
player who gets 6-5-4 after two rolls can roll either one die or two
dice one more time. Once a die is put aside it cannot be rolled
again. Each voyage (turn) is played the same and a player must get
a Ship, Captain and Crew in that order before scoring Cargo points.
A player cannot collect
a Captain before acquiring a Ship, nor can the player collect a Crew
before acquiring a Captain. If a player does not roll a Ship,
Captain and Crew in that order during the player's three rolls per
voyage, the player cannot score Cargo points for that voyage and passes
the dice.
Shipwreck
Playing Pieces:
three spotted dice, each numbered 1 to 6.
Object:
To
be the first player to reach 100 points or
any chosen target number.
To Start:
Each player rolls
one die. High roll goes first and play moves to the left.
On Each Turn:
Player 1
rolls all three of the dice and add the total of the faces of the dice.
If one dice is a one, then you're shipwrecked - run aground and get no
points for that roll. If two ones are rolled in a turn then you're
shipwrecked with loss of property - lose all your points so far. If
three ones are rolled then you're shipwrecked with casualties - out of
the game. Each player only gets one roll at a time. Play
continues to the left.

Twenty-One
Playing
Pieces:
one spotted die, numbered 1 to 6.
Object:
To
get as close to 21
as possible with an
uneven number of rolls.
To Start:
Each player rolls
one die. High roll goes first and play moves to the left.
On Each Turn:
Player 1
rolls the die either one,
three, five, seven, nine, etc. times and tries to get as close to 21,
without going over, as possible. Player cannot stop rolling on
rolls two, four, six, eight, etc. If the total exceeds 21, then
player is out. The player who is closest to 21 wins the round.
If a player gets exactly 21, then they win the round immediately.
Play as may rounds as you'd like.

As Much With Two As With One
Playing Pieces: two spotted dice, numbered 1
to 6.
Object:
To
roll the target number first by either adding or subtracting the two
numbers that are rolled.
To Start:
Each player rolls one die. High roll goes first and play
moves to the left. The high roll is also the target number for
this round.
On Each Turn:
Player 1
rolls the two dice. The
numbers rolled are either added or subtracted to try to make the target
number. Example: a 5 is the target number - player 1 rolls a 4 and
a 5 (4+5=9 too high) (5-4=1 too low) so it is the next person's turn.
Once the target number is reached, that player receives a point and a
new target number is rolled and play begins again.
He Who Throws Most Wins
This is most likely the
easiest dice game possible.
Playing
Pieces: as many dice as
desired.
On Each Turn: Divide the dice into two equal
groups or take turns with the dice. Roll all the dice and count up
the points. Player with the most points wins.
Multiplication War
Playing Pieces: 2 dice per
player
Object:
Try to roll a higher product than your
opponent to score points.
On Each Turn: Each player
rolls their dice and multiplies the numbers together. the player
with the greatest product receives one point. In the event of a
tie, a tie breaker must be played. Each player rolls the dice
again to get a new product. The player with the greatest product
of this roll wins the tie and receives 4 points. Play until one
player scores 25 points.
Variation: Players add or
subtract the dice instead of multiply or players roll in hopes of
rolling the lowest product in order to score a point or players round
off their products to the nearest ten before comparing to their partner
(ie., player one rolls 4 x 6 and then rounds this down to 20).
