Gaming at the Smithsonian Museum of American Art

Today we went up to DC to the Smithsonian Museum of Art to play a multimedia scavenger hunt game.   It was called Ghosts of a Chance.  We were told that two of the museum workers were possessed by ghosts and we had to complete quests to save them.

We had to search for specific art works on the computer to find out where they were in the museum, then go there to find the clue word which had to be texted to a certain number and a return text was sent to us with the next clue.  Naturally, each each clue was placed on the extreme opposite side of the the huge art museum.  We got a major workout today!

We had to find a clue in this awesome art piece and text it to receive the next clue.

At one point, we even had to follow a treasure map....

and count squares in the courtyard to find the next clue.

It was a box hidden in the bushes.

More art work searching

We ran up and down these stairs countless times....beautiful museum, isn't it?

We were led to this piece which is all made out of tin foil to find one of the clues.

The kids had to make tin foil sculptures and return with them to the starting point for the next clue.

More clues...

Finally, after 1.5 hours of running around the museum and getting very sweaty, we managed to save the workers from their possessions.  Yay, us!

Then we headed out to the courtyard to eat some lunch and hang out.  We happened upon a jazz ensemble and got to enjoy a free live music show.  It was nice.

Things had been great all day.  Lots of fun but then suddenly things went downhill.  When we arrived at the parking lot to get the car, we discovered that the garage had close and my car was trapped inside.  Not good.  Also trapped inside were my house keys and my husband is out of town right now.  Not good.  I can't get my car out until tomorrow and they are going to charge me a hefty fee for leaving me car there all night.  Not good.  Anyway, we ended up having to take the metro (subway) out as far towards my house as we could get and then had to call to get someone to come pick us up.  Luckily, my brother has a key to my house so we could get back inside.  Tomorrow I'll have to figure out how to get back up to DC to retrieve my car.  Not good.

Update: I was able to get to retrieve my car the next day with the help of a neighbor.  Whew!  Glad to get my car, my keys, and all our belongings back.
