Since we are new to the area and
don't really know many people yet, I decided to organize a scavenger
/ logic puzzle hunt at the mall in order to meet some more
homeschoolers. We had a great turnout with 15 kids showing up!
Awesome! Great way to meet new people!

The kids were divided into teams and
each team was given a stack of numbered envelopes and a picture an
unusual item found in the mall that they were to find and off they
went. Once they found the pictured item, they texted me where
they found it and then I texted them back the number of an envelope
that they were to open and solve the logic problem inside.
Once they solved the logic problem, they texted me the answer and I
texted back a picture of the next mystery item to find in the mall
which led to the next logic puzzle and so on and so forth.
Here is a sample of some of the
things they had to find....a feathered phone, teeny tiny flip-flops,
the banana gumball machine, a turtle with seashells on shell, etc.

A sample of one of the puzzles they
had to solve was....Jimmy's mother had 4 children. She named
the first Monday. She named the second Tuesday, She
named the third Wednesday. What is the name of the fourth
child?
Naturally, they first thought the 4th
child's name was Thursday and texted that to me but I texted them to
try again. Finally they came up with the correct answer which
was Jimmy. I got most of my logic puzzles from
this site.
Sometimes the answer to a puzzle had
to be shown to me via texting a picture. This one is of one
team coming down the escalator in a certain order that they had to
figure out by clues .

Take a picture of
everyone in the right order riding down the escalator. Text it to
me for the next clue.
-
The person who
likes to bake and play tennis is in the middle.
-
The person who
had a really bad dog bite and stitches is behind the one wearing
green.
-
The person whose
favorite animal is a wolf and wants to run an animal rescue
center is two people in front of the person in the middle.
-
The person who
gets to wear a police uniform and handcuffs is next to last in
line.
-
The person who
can sing in Italian is behind Emily.
Here is one of the teams with the
elusive banana gumball machine located at the far end of the mall.

Here is one team with Ringo Starr's
autograph.

Once they all found all the items and
solved all the puzzles, they opened the last envelope and found some
cut out numbers and letters which made no sense but when all the
teams returned to the food court and discussed their hunts they
realized that they all had numbers and letters and figured out that
they could put all the letters together and spell out World Gym and
a three digit number.

They noticed that there was a World Gym
kiosk near our table and went over to ask the World Gym people if
they knew why they had a clue that spelled out World Gym.
Unbeknownst to the kids, I had earlier given a padlocked bag to the
World Gym people to hide in their cart and to give to the kids when
they come over looking for a clue.
.JPG)
The World Gym people gave them the
locked bag and then the kids quickly figured out that they must have
to use the numbers they were given to unlock the lock. They
wrote out all the combinations on a piece of paper and started
trying them out.

Once inside, they found they had a
choice of a Jamba Juice coupon or a Cold Stone ice cream coupon
to take as their prize.
Yummy!!!

Help all the people cross a river. The raft holds a maximum of two persons
at a time and only the adults (i.e., father, mother and police) know how to
operate it. Beware: (1) The father cannot stay with any of the
daughters without their mother's presence. (2) The mother cannot stay with
any of the sons without their father's presence. (3) The thief cannot stay

for some families or some kids but was an interesting puzzle to figure out.)
