Toad Haven Homeschool
Toad Haven Homeschool
This past month Ethan has expressed an interest in trying out high school.
The original plan was that he’d just register for a college class this coming semester and slowly work up to more and more classes as time went by and not mess with high school at all but then he got cold feet about jumping right into college. I know he can do it, but he’s not so sure since he’s never experienced anything like it yet.
So, he decided he’d rather try out high school first and then either decide to drop out once he proves to himself he can do the work and move on to the college classes or, if he loves it, then to finish out all the high school years there.
My husband and I weren’t thrilled with the idea of high school but we understood why he wanted to do it and so supported him. We don’t have a big homeschooling group here like we’ve had everywhere else we’ve lived and so that is playing a part in this all, too.
The day before we were to go register, we happened to hear about a local technical charter high school. It’s small and everything is centered around technology. All the classrooms are lined with computers and all sorts of other fancy technological gadgets. It’s all project based learning. It feels like a college atmosphere there. Classes are held in 80 minute blocks with 4 on one day and the other 4 on the next day.
We were instantly smitten with the school! It seems like a perfect fit for his way of learning. Woo-Hoo!!!!!!!!
So, as of today, we have a new Sophomore high school student! He’s so, so excited to try this out!! And we are excited for him!!!

He will be taking World Studies, Chemistry, Geometry/Algebra 2, Digital Media, PE and Rock Band (and maybe Robotics)
